WELCOME, ROY DOMIND
~THE RUBICON EFFECT~
What was your inspiration behind writing this intriguing story( The Rubicon Effect)?
American politics was where the genesis of The Rubicon Effect started. Seeing politicians deny reality, as big money inflicts its will upon the system is a fascinating thing to behold. But fascination can quickly turn to horror when it begins affecting reality. With weather fluctuating madly across the globe, the rising oceans, and with draught and fires ever increasing, it isn’t fear mongering to acknowledge the truth. Combine this with a new Pope, and given the struggles of the church, these unique circumstances provide an interesting opportunity for a writer.
So while musing on all these events, I wondered, what if the American right-wing came up with a plan. A solution so horrific, yet necessary, that it focused the human species on the coming days. What would happen if tomorrow, we woke up with the headlines, Pope Declares End of Days? How would humanity react? Would we just continue on in disbelief, or would we run mad into the streets? How would humanity react if we were faced with an immediate problem that had no solution?
That lead me to thinking about, who are we as an entity, and what do we believe in? Those two questions interested me because I think it goes to the core of our existence. Writing a book about humanity, at its very core, at that moment that we must say, “This is who we are! This is what we believe in!” Now that fascinated me.
What made you decide to bring to the forefront something on The Apocalypse?
I wanted something that would immediately focus all mankind. An event that would have both spiritual ramifications, as well as corporeal impact. People die everyday, in mass killings, or catastrophic weather events, even if the global event happened, say, an asteroid careening towards the earth, it doesn’t really touch the spiritual, not like The End of Days. No more days, the end, now that is immediate and now, it impacts the spirit and the body. What would we do to stop the Apocalypse? If a plan was so horrific that it was nearly incomprehensible, yet saved us, would we, could we do it? What are we capable of, if it means saving our bodies, what are our souls worth to us? Would we sell our soul for more days on the planet? Theres the question raised by The Rubicon Effect.
How did this book come to be?
This novel had a long and twisted journey to the readers hands. I first thought of this book while walking around the lakes near my home. Such beauty. Butterflies and bees, elk and eagles, owls, beavers, deer, every type of bird, squirrels and chipmunks. Life is everywhere on my walk. Then the question came. What if this was all gone, tomorrow? What would I have done to prevent that. I sat beside the lakes and wondered what was in me, in my fellow man, so that some can rant against reality, deny global climate change, all the while using the church, quoting the bible, saying they know the invisible, while right before their eyes, sea levels rise, and ozone layers deplete.
I struggled with all these questions while writing this book. I think some perspective and insight came while trying to answer a question with no solution and I believe that I was able to write it into the story.
Once completed, a publisher liked it and then art and reality collided. I signed a contract but the publisher was taken over by a larger company. A right-wing conglomerate, who didn’t like the books message. I was flattered, as it offended enough for them to break the contract, confirmation that I had written something of substance. So broken contract in one hand and pride in the other, I again put it out to publishers.
Three offered contracts and I chose one, then another offered after I had signed my contract. I don’t break contracts, because I sincerely believe that a civilized society is run by laws and that contracts are a personal commitment. For me it’s a matter of pride. So I remained with the people I signed with and have had no regrets that I did.
And now, after a long torturous road, The Rubicon Effect finally lives.

“I do not believe in a fate that falls on men however they act; but I do believe in a fate that falls on them unless they act.”
Two seemingly unrelated events will soon affect the entire world! The Holy Church has just ordained the first South American Pope. Born into poverty and raised on the mean streets of Buenos Aires, Argentina, the new leader of the Holy Church intends to bring the church kicking and screaming into the 21st century. While at the same time, the death of the Venezuelan President has opened the door to a new, rising political star and her plan to inspire an entire world. The Pope finds himself cleverly trapped in a web, from which he cannot escape, when the Republican nominees for President and Vice President of the United States of America, Richard Delaney, and his stunning running mate, Michelle Yakin, propose a horrific solution. However, three visionaries: a mysterious Elder from the Andes Mountains, who calls himself Older Brother, the second term, lame duck, President of the United States of America, and an environmentalist, see another way . . . Unfortunately, the time to act is running out. Mother Nature may have crossed the Rubicon and there is no turning back. The Apocalypse, the End of Days has arrived and humanity is to be judged.
